A. B. Lash Fields
My Education:A little about my education and experience…I graduated from Ottawa
University with a Bachelor’s of Arts degree in Science and attended KU
for a semester doing research work with Drosophila flies while teaching
Anatomy and Physiology to biology majors and non-majors. I decided
academia rather than research was for me, so I spent some time in the
public school system as an emergency substitute teacher before
returning to school for my Master’s degree which I obtained the
summer of 2011.
My Experience:
Meantime I have taught Principles of Biology for 4 years
online for a Kansas community
college. Currently, I am teaching several
sections of Biology courses onsite at Ottawa
University, several science
online courses for Labette Community College, Highland
Community College, Fort Scott Community College, and a foundations course
for
American Public University online.
I taught Hawaiian Kenpo at
OU for 9 years…my interests are not solely biology related!
Personal Life:
I have three small children and my husband and I have been married
since
1999. We recently adopted two shelter rescue dogs, DJ and Little Jackie.

My Education:
I have a masters degree in education with an online teaching and learning option from California State University plus an additional nine post-graduate hours in education at Pittsburg State University. I hold a bachelors degree in elementary education K-9 from Pittsburg State University. While the director of an adult education grant, I completed several Adult Education certificates in various areas from Kansas Board of Regents. Trainings and certificates include: Counseling of “At Risk” Students, Adult Basic Education, Secondary Education, ESL Education, Technology/Computer, and Life and Job Skills Education. In addition, I have completed online teaching and learning workshops with American Public University in conjunction with my current APU online faculty position.
My Experience:
For approximately ten years before moving to postsecondary education, I provided instruction in most subjects to elementary and middle school students. Later I taught postsecondary classes for 21 years. I have accumulated 11 years as a college administrator. For one year I served as a Title III Coordinator and for five years I served as the Director of a College Student Success Center. I was hired by a small community college in January of 1999 to integrate technology and instruction for developmental courses. I started with intranet learning systems education delivery and moved on to online developmental course delivery and computer assisted instruction tutoring programs. In addition, I supervised assessment activities at the college. I also created and managed online professional development courses for faculty members and evaluated online courses and instructors. In the summer of 2005 I took the Dean of Instruction position at another small college and continued working there until the summer of 2010. At the second college I created and taught online professional development workshops targeting learning communities, teaching methods directed toward ability levels, learning styles, multiple intelligences, strategies for success for “at risk” students, and understanding stages of maturity and was responsible for assessment of student learning, course and program development, and evaluating instruction of fulltime faculty.
After retiring from college administration work, I began working for American Military/Public University as an online faculty member. I teach "Introduction to Online Learning". I also create new education opportunities in JAM Education and teach JAM classes. I began working on the JAM Education Organization and courses several years ago. The "big" idea kept growing and several other people joined the effort to make it a reality. So, here we are today!!
